The end of April 2019 marked one whole year of me being a Placenta Remedies Specialist. It also marked my busiest period of the whole year which involved me encapsulating 8 placentas in under 2 weeks! No idea how I managed to pull that off, no sleep I think! Over the past year I have helped over 30 women with their postpartum recovery by providing them with various remedies made from their placenta and I am really loving what I do. It is great to see the excitement in their face as I hand over their remedies and then hearing how great they felt after taking them makes it all worthwhile.

So how did I get into doing this in the first place?

2 years ago I gave birth to my son Rocco. A few weeks prior to his birth I came across placenta encapsulation by chance on a TV programme. My initial thought was that it was gross and I couldn’t understand why anyone would want to consume their placenta! I happened to mention it in passing to a friend at work, who was also pregnant, and she told me that she was having her placenta encapsulated after the birth. I decided to look into it a bit more and when I read about all the benefits that can be experienced, I decided to go ahead and book. What did I have to lose? I decided to have steamed capsules as at the time the other option was called ‘raw’ and that freaked me out a bit. Now I have trained I realise they aren’t raw at all since they are still dehydrated.

An umbilical cord keepsake is included with every encapsulation

My placenta was collected by the specialist I had chosen a couple of hours after I gave birth and my capsules arrived in the post the morning after I left hospital. I was so excited to try them and they didn’t disappoint! I felt great in the weeks following the birth. I had good energy levels despite the lack of sleep, I didn’t bleed for very long and I didn’t suffer from any emotional instability either. I felt great! I honestly believe they helped me have a much easier postpartum recovery and because of this I decided to train to become a specialist myself and in January 2018 I started my training. I decided to train with IPEN https://www.placentanetwork.com/ and the training consisted of an online theory course and then a full days practical training which was great and really thorough. I couldn’t wait to get started! I had my first client in the April and the rest they say, is history. I have turned women’s placentas into a variety of different remedies over the past year and helped them to have, hopefully, a much easier postpartum recovery. The most popular remedies my clients choose are either Simple or Steamed capsules followed by placenta oil and smoothies. I also offer tinctures and essences which are a great option for continuing to receive the benefits of your placenta long after you have finished your capsules. I now a member of The Placenta Remedies Network who provide all their members with plenty of support and guidance. If you aren't local to me then you can find your local specialist on their website https://placentaremediesnetwork.org/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIusv7-tiT4gIVh7HtCh3qzwIaEAAYASAAEgI0QPD_BwE

I've now got the bug for working in the birth world and as well as offering placenta remedies I have since trained to become a Doula with Developing Doulas. I am now also offering Birth and Postnatal Doula services and am hoping to start offering antenatal classes soon. I'll post about the role of a Doula in another post soon but in the meantime you can find details about my Doula services at https://doula.org.uk/doula/kayleigh-ollard/
